Long overdue update of MyLove

MyLoveI just submitted a long overdue update to one of the oldest apps from The CodingBees in the Palm HP AppCatalog. It’s the 2nd released app and was our first paid app back in May 2010.

It’s a simple and fun app, no productivity one like most of the other apps available.

The update includes only minor changes:

  • fixed a bug where webOS 2.x devices can’t launch the app
  • adjustments to fit the Pre3 screen size

nothing more, really :-)

Version 1.2.1 should be available soon. More info here

Going big and bigger!

With big and bigger we mean of course, the Pre3 and the TouchPad!

First, the smaller one – Pre3

Today HP approved an update for Headlines 1.0.2 for webOS that use of the full screen, means that the 20px bottom bar visible on most non-adjusted apps is no longer there, instead the app takes advantage of the full resolution by 480×800 and also got some updated graphics for it, because most of the scaled graphics didn’t look that good. Have a look in the AppCatalog on your device to get it.

Second, the bigger one – TouchPad

ConvertorWe’re happy to announce that HP also approved a new app we submitted. And it’s called Convertor XL(AppCat link). Yep, it is the premium unit & currency conversion utility now in big size with adjustments for the TouchPad UI. So still the same huge amount of units & currencies (over 400!). Still fully customizable to your needs.
Available for $1.99 around the world (where AppCatalog with paid apps is available).

And we have a special promotion for all our existing Convertor users, that bought the phone version earlier. We will announce that later today in an extra post, so if you’re already bought the app, stay tuned!

Insights in TouchPad usage – Statistics of an app!

Since HP’s fire-sale of their webOS devices TouchPad sales gone crazy and most of the webOS developers saw a nice increase of downloads of their app. No matter if free or paid versions.

One of our apps ColorHarmony is available for a long time already for all the phones and since end of August also for the TouchPad. We track some device distribution statistics for over a year now and we were really surprised on how many users are already downloaded and used this app on the TouchPad.

Enough words typed, let pictures speak.

Device Distribution overall (Emulator is development)

Different ScreenResolutions

Download stats for the last couple of days

As a summary, these stats are tracked over the last 12 months, except the download stats that are representing only the last weeks, since TouchPad launch. And as you see, the TouchPad has already taken the 2nd place, has left the usage on Pixi‘s behind and is only a few weeks on the market.
I also not included a number on how many apps are used out there, because it would make no difference if overall are 1000 or 100.000 users of ColorHarmony.

Now think what could have been happened if HP has done the launch of the latest device (Pre3, Veer and of course the TouchPad) right?

ColorHarmony available on any webOS device! Again.

ColorHarmony is now available on the TouchPad for a few days already, but with this submission to the AppCatalog it was not available for all the phones with webOS out there anymore.

This has been changed with the latest 1.6.1 release together with some enhancements for the shiny new devices.

  • fixed display of HEX color values on the TouchPad
  • better handling of back gestures (TouchPad)
  • Pre3 ready now with some now images
Best of all, it’s still free!
So launch your AppCatalog on whichever webOS device you are and download your copy today!

About the current situation

It’s been a while since we blogged something here.

There where many changes since our last post. But we’re alive and I will give you a short summary about our development & apps in the current situation, that HP has dumped all webOS hardware.

TouchPad update (Mojo)
First thing, we don’t leave all you TouchPad owners out in the cold! Even if HP has dumped all the TouchPads, there are plenty of you out there that already bought one and we understand that you want to use them.
There is no native TouchPad application from us available in the AppCatalog yet, but ColorHarmony will be the first one, we submitted it today and if all runs fine, will be available in the next couple of days. We also prepare Headlines for the TouchPad, both apps are still Mojo versions, but they will get “back” buttons on different scenes and we adjust the screen real estate so that it matches the bigger screen better.

We got plenty of question about our TrackMyTransit apps, currently we don’t plan to bring them to the TouchPad, because these apps are built for really mobile usage on a phone that you carry always with you. Currently it makes no sense to pull a TouchPad out of your pocket ( :-) ) and check the latest bus schedules.

Pre3 update
Even if the Pre3 will never be available as hardware to ourselves, we currently update Headlines to match the bigger screen and update the used images with higher resolution (1.5x) size so that it looks great on the 480×800 resolution.
We’ll see in the coming days/weeks how any Pre3 are used in the wild and we will than decide if we adjust other apps from our portfolio also to the Pre3. At the moment that is lowprio, due to the cancelation of the Pre3.

Touchpad native (Enyo)
We had 3 apps in development before HP doomed all webOS hardware last week. At the moment all Enyo apps are on hold. We’ve plenty of work with porting our Mojo apps to Touchpad resolution (see above) and maybe in the meanwhile we get some updates from the webOS Development team about the current situation and we can work again on our planned apps.

So check the AppCatalog in the coming days/weeks and there will more&more of our apps appear also for the TouchPad/Pre3.

Tppd! – A webOS app for Untappd

I want to introduce a new hobby app that I submitted yesterday to the AppCatalog.

I already posted a short introduction a few weeks ago, but now it’s nearly in the catalog and I want to give some more details on it.

The app is called Tppd! (with the exclamation mark!) and is a native webOS client for Untappd. What is Untappd? Well, who can better introduce a service as the makers of this platform:

Untappd is a new way to socially share and explore the world of beer with your friends and the world. Curious what your friends are drinking or where they’re hanging out? Just check their profile where you can toast and comment on their beers! Untappd will offer you beer recommendations based on what you and your friends have been enjoying, so you’ll have no reason to not try something new! As additional encouragement, Untappd allows you to earn a number of cool badges for completing a variety of different criteria.
Source

You need an Untappd account, which you can get from inside the app. You can link your created account on the website with your Facebook and/or Twitter account. Also you can link directly with your Foursquare or Gowalla account. That gives you the ability to directly check-in to a venue during a beer check-in from inside the app simultaneously.

Once you logged in, you will be presented with a three pane view (like Headlines or Phnx) starting with the drink Up pane. Here you can view your recent checked in brews and also see what’s trending o Untappd right now. You can hit the Search glass, or simply Just start to type to start a search for a beer you’re currently enjoying and you want to check in.

From here you can select your beer and you will see some details of the brew and you’ve the option to check-in to this brew.

You can add a comment if you want, rate the beer and also can share the check in to the outside world (Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Gowalla) in the sharing list below. If you want you can add a venue to the check-in (Foursquare & Gowalla need a venue to get shared.) Users of this platforms already know this step, pretty familiar to the other services.

You also can browse from the main menu through your friends timeline and the public timeline and can view details of another Untappd users check-in. You can toast a check-in and add a comment or follow a conversation for this one.

Since this is a hobby, I only code in my spare time on the client. There will be more to come, like profile view of users, friends management and more. But for Version 1.0 that’s it. Should be mostly bug free for the features currently implemented, but sorry if there are any, please inform me if you find any of that little bastards.

And I want like to shout out a big Thanks to @rmxdave (yep! the dev from Phnx!)for the design of the icon and @dan_lipson for the design of the background of the login screen.

I hope you like the app and spread the word about it. As soon as it is approved by Palm I give you an update!

Headlines updated to 1.0.1 – Gets even better!

AppCatalog approval was so fast for our next update for Headlines Version 1.0.1 that we even had no time to post something about the changes.

So if you not already saw it, Version 1.0.1 was approved by HP on Saturday to the catalog, 24 hours after we submitted the update. Awesome job HP!
