Going big and bigger!

With big and bigger we mean of course, the Pre3 and the TouchPad!

First, the smaller one – Pre3

Today HP approved an update for Headlines 1.0.2 for webOS that use of the full screen, means that the 20px bottom bar visible on most non-adjusted apps is no longer there, instead the app takes advantage of the full resolution by 480×800 and also got some updated graphics for it, because most of the scaled graphics didn’t look that good. Have a look in the AppCatalog on your device to get it.

Second, the bigger one – TouchPad

ConvertorWe’re happy to announce that HP also approved a new app we submitted. And it’s called Convertor XL(AppCat link). Yep, it is the premium unit & currency conversion utility now in big size with adjustments for the TouchPad UI. So still the same huge amount of units & currencies (over 400!). Still fully customizable to your needs.
Available for $1.99 around the world (where AppCatalog with paid apps is available).

And we have a special promotion for all our existing Convertor users, that bought the phone version earlier. We will announce that later today in an extra post, so if you’re already bought the app, stay tuned!

ColorHarmony available on any webOS device! Again.

ColorHarmony is now available on the TouchPad for a few days already, but with this submission to the AppCatalog it was not available for all the phones with webOS out there anymore.

This has been changed with the latest 1.6.1 release together with some enhancements for the shiny new devices.

  • fixed display of HEX color values on the TouchPad
  • better handling of back gestures (TouchPad)
  • Pre3 ready now with some now images
Best of all, it’s still free!
So launch your AppCatalog on whichever webOS device you are and download your copy today!

Tppd! is available in the Catalog!

Here we go! This was fast! Again, Tppd! is already available in the AppCatalog.

Here are some info I forgot on my last introduction blog post, so especially FrankenPre users should read it.

Get it in the AppCatalog

The App as I already wrote is a fun app I started to learn some of the new features that the webOS 2.x SDK provides. So it uses features (like JavaScript Services) that are not available on webOS 1.4.x version. And therefore I had to package the App as a webOS 2.1 only app.

If you’re on a meta-doctored Pre- or Pre+ (aka FrankenPre) you should use Impostah (via Preware) to download the app, according to Rod (@webosinternals) it’s a bug in the Catalog:

This should work fine and you can use Tppd! as long as you’re minimum webOS version is 2.1.

So that means Tppd! will not be available to webOS 1.4.x users, and never will be. Sorry, if you like Untappd and still have a webOS 1.4.x system, you should have a look at Growlr from @zhephree.

Tppd! – A webOS app for Untappd

I want to introduce a new hobby app that I submitted yesterday to the AppCatalog.

I already posted a short introduction a few weeks ago, but now it’s nearly in the catalog and I want to give some more details on it.

The app is called Tppd! (with the exclamation mark!) and is a native webOS client for Untappd. What is Untappd? Well, who can better introduce a service as the makers of this platform:

Untappd is a new way to socially share and explore the world of beer with your friends and the world. Curious what your friends are drinking or where they’re hanging out? Just check their profile where you can toast and comment on their beers! Untappd will offer you beer recommendations based on what you and your friends have been enjoying, so you’ll have no reason to not try something new! As additional encouragement, Untappd allows you to earn a number of cool badges for completing a variety of different criteria.
Source

You need an Untappd account, which you can get from inside the app. You can link your created account on the website with your Facebook and/or Twitter account. Also you can link directly with your Foursquare or Gowalla account. That gives you the ability to directly check-in to a venue during a beer check-in from inside the app simultaneously.

Once you logged in, you will be presented with a three pane view (like Headlines or Phnx) starting with the drink Up pane. Here you can view your recent checked in brews and also see what’s trending o Untappd right now. You can hit the Search glass, or simply Just start to type to start a search for a beer you’re currently enjoying and you want to check in.

From here you can select your beer and you will see some details of the brew and you’ve the option to check-in to this brew.

You can add a comment if you want, rate the beer and also can share the check in to the outside world (Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Gowalla) in the sharing list below. If you want you can add a venue to the check-in (Foursquare & Gowalla need a venue to get shared.) Users of this platforms already know this step, pretty familiar to the other services.

You also can browse from the main menu through your friends timeline and the public timeline and can view details of another Untappd users check-in. You can toast a check-in and add a comment or follow a conversation for this one.

Since this is a hobby, I only code in my spare time on the client. There will be more to come, like profile view of users, friends management and more. But for Version 1.0 that’s it. Should be mostly bug free for the features currently implemented, but sorry if there are any, please inform me if you find any of that little bastards.

And I want like to shout out a big Thanks to @rmxdave (yep! the dev from Phnx!)for the design of the icon and @dan_lipson for the design of the background of the login screen.

I hope you like the app and spread the word about it. As soon as it is approved by Palm I give you an update!

Headlines – New(s) app coming soon!

Let me introduce a new app that I just submitted to Palm HP AppCatalog.

It’s called Headlines and will be available in two flavours.

I developed gNews Headlines, because I often find myself, having some time, waiting for the bus, train, whatever.

So Headlines was born, it’s an app that provides you with time-sensitive news (from Google News). But only the headlines from Google aren’t enough for me. So I decided to also add a keyword search on news, so that I can have all my favorite (e.g. “hp webOS”) topics I want in the news always visible.
I also wanted to save a story for later reading or share it with friends, so Instapaper and Read It Later integration was a no-brainer.
Since I’m often on a slow network, I also integrated the feature to read the stories via Google Mobilizer or Instapaper Mobilizer (to be honest, Instapaper Mobilizer is much better than G’s one!)
So design was the only hard decision, but since I like the way Dave did the Metro UI (WP7) in Phnx, I give it a try, and I think this UI fits perfectly for such an app!

Headlines is an app that fetches Google News feeds to provide you with the latest news available all around the web. It shows all the standard available Google News feeds and allows you to add your own custom keyword based feeds.

Features:

  • enable & disable al available standard Google News feeds
  • add as many custom Google News feeds based on keywords
  • In-App view of headlines with Google Mobilizer/Instapaper Mobilizer support for better readability
  • Support for 36 local news feeds available (see full list below)
  • Send articles directly to Instapaper or Read it Later (both require separate account)
  • Share stories via Mail, Facebook, Messaging, different Twitter apps (completely customizable)
• Context Menu (Tap&Hold) an article to access sharing options without opening story
  • different themes
As I mentioned above, there will be two versions. A full version and a lite version. The lite version has only one limitation. You can only set one custom search to the default feeds. All the other Pro features are also available.
And if you like the lite version think about support development and buy the pro version.

Expect these two versions soon, maybe this week in the catalog already.

In the meantime have a look at this video that should give you an overview of the app. It was recorded a while ago while in early beta, so not all features are visible in the video that were added during the development process. But it should give you the idea…

Countries that are currently supported:

Australia, India, Israel, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, 中国版 (China), 香港版 (Hong Kong), 日本 (Japan), Belgique, Česká republika, Deutschland, España, France, Ireland, Italia, Nederland, Norge, Österreich, Polska, Portugal, Schweiz, South Africa, Suisse, Sverige, Türkiye, U.K.,Argentina, Brasil, Canada English, Canada Français, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Estados Unidos, México, U.S.

Twithibition – passive Twitter client for webOS

We had a lot of work in the last couple of days to finalize our latest app for webOS. So blogging here is a little late since Twithibition is available for a few hours already in the official HP AppCatalog already.

Twithibition is a passive Twitter client for HP webOS that displays tweets from your timeline or custom searches in a new way while for example your device rests on the TouchStone in Exhibition mode (on webOS 2.1 and above) but this also works for older webOS version too but not via Exhibition mode, but via a prevent display from going to sleep mode.

Passive means that it is not a full featured Twitter client, there are plenty of really good Twitter apps for webOS already. So passive means, display tweets/searches and easily favorite tweets or re-tweet the current displayed one.

You can’t send a new tweet or add/follow new users. That’s not the target of it. So really passive for sitting on your desk and of course also if you want to read tweets by swiping each one of them from right to left or let Twithibition do its magic and let it do the work for you.

For more info head over to its own page here: http://twithibition.codingbees.com

Tip: Currently the app is available for 50% of the normal price, but only for the first few days during introduction!

TrackMyTransit-Boston 1.0.2 submitted!

Track My Transit - Boston

We just submitted an updated version of our app TrackMyTransit-Boston to the AppCatalog.

This version has some bug fixes and lots new features:

  • We changed the caching of nextbus data, so that you retrieve on every app start the latest available data. With 1.0.1 we cached the data and only updated it every 30 days. Problem is, that this leads to a out-dated database, because of route/run changes on MBTA. (The data is only few kb’s, we tried to keep the data as minimum as possible). Predictions where retrieved in real-time in all versions!
  • You can now store also rail stations as a bookmark
  • View the latest @mbtaGM tweets on Twitter (via the T-Alerts scene)
  • Improved Main-Menu with description below the icons
  • Fixed a bug where some users can’t load latest vehicle data

The update should be available in the next few days. Everyone should update to this version. Users of version 1.0.1 will get a notification inside the app if a new app is available!

Convertor for webOS on sale!

ConvertorDuring the holiday season we decided to decrease the price of our premium unit & currency converter for webOS “Convertor” to only $.099. That are 50% off the normal price! So have a look in the catalog, the updated price should be on in a few hours.

Be sure to grab a copy, because this price will change back to the original one after a short time.
