Headlines2 2.0.2 submitted – What’s new

I just submitted version 2.0.2 to the AppCatalog.

After providing a list of changes a few days ago, here is the complete list what’s changed in this version:

  • [FIX] small glitch with article read pull down switching the article to fast
  • [FIX] current position (read count) in the article pop-up is now updated also in WebView
  • [ADD] Font size in list view is now selectable, we included three settings (small, medium, large) and need your feedback as soon as it’s available if the sizes fit your requested needs
  • [FIX] Some german translations
  • [ADD] You can now edit the title and URL of saved RSS feeds
  • [ADD] You can now reorder your RSS feeds and CustomNews searches
  • [FIX] Some small bug fixes that we found during the last few weeks
  • [ADD] Visual “spinner” when deleting an RSS feed to provide visual feedback
  • [ADD] You can now select the default view pane for each feed when opening the article pop-up

Also as noted, the price will be changed back to $3.99, so there is still the chance for a short time to get it for $1.99 as long as HP hasn’t approved the app.

Headlines2 update 2.0.2 coming soon

It’s time for an update of Headlines2. I currently work pretty hard on fixing some small reported bugs and glitches and also include some new things in the next version. It will take a few days, but here are the already finished fixes and changes.

The changes will be (subject to change…):

It’s currently planned to submit the Version 2.0.2 to HP next week.

Also I will change the reduced price back to $3.99 with this update, so if you haven’t bought the App yet for only $1.99 you should be fast to get a 50% rebate.

Headlines2 is featured in latest HP newsletter

We were really surprised as we read the latest HP App News January issue, that we got via mail from the HP Newsletter subscription service.

There is Headlines2 featured in the “App special deals” section. The price is currently at $1.99. Now for a few more days, we decided to keep the price a little longer that low as we got featured. So if you haven’t you should grab a copy before the price is back at $3.99.

Headlines2 – Short teaser

I haven’t posted any news for some time here. Reason is, that I try to get Headlines2 for webOS out to the HP AppCatalog as soon as possible.

So to give you a short status on Headlines2 I’ve made a short video to show you how to read articles in Headlines2.

I hope you like it. Be sure that there are many nice little details in this app that you’ll love, once it’s released ;-)

Going big and bigger!

With big and bigger we mean of course, the Pre3 and the TouchPad!

First, the smaller one – Pre3

Today HP approved an update for Headlines 1.0.2 for webOS that use of the full screen, means that the 20px bottom bar visible on most non-adjusted apps is no longer there, instead the app takes advantage of the full resolution by 480×800 and also got some updated graphics for it, because most of the scaled graphics didn’t look that good. Have a look in the AppCatalog on your device to get it.

Second, the bigger one – TouchPad

ConvertorWe’re happy to announce that HP also approved a new app we submitted. And it’s called Convertor XL(AppCat link). Yep, it is the premium unit & currency conversion utility now in big size with adjustments for the TouchPad UI. So still the same huge amount of units & currencies (over 400!). Still fully customizable to your needs.
Available for $1.99 around the world (where AppCatalog with paid apps is available).

And we have a special promotion for all our existing Convertor users, that bought the phone version earlier. We will announce that later today in an extra post, so if you’re already bought the app, stay tuned!

Headlines updated to 1.0.1 – Gets even better!

AppCatalog approval was so fast for our next update for Headlines Version 1.0.1 that we even had no time to post something about the changes.

So if you not already saw it, Version 1.0.1 was approved by HP on Saturday to the catalog, 24 hours after we submitted the update. Awesome job HP!

Changelog:

  • (fix) load timeout on app start
  • (new) more themes, Headlines includes 3 new themes
    • Old Newspaper
    • Red
    • Retro Style
  • (enhance) when a mobilizer (default) is activated, the article view is now themed as well, should look much better now. (This doesn’t work when no mobilizer is used, but we recommend always use one)
  • (enhance) you can now sort the topics for custom searches and also the Google default topics like you want it. Simply tap&hold a topic item in the preferences to move it up or down. (default Google topics will always be displayed first)
  • (add) quickly switch font-sizes in inline-article-view for the current article
  • (add) Power-scroll in article inline-view to jump to the top or bottom of the currently viewing article.
  • (add) Power-swipe in main view, to jump quickly from the left-most-pane to the right and vice versa.
  • (fix) German translation, some typo, more strings translated
This enhancements and fixes are currently only in the full version of Headlines. The bug fixes will of course be implemented in the Lite version also in a few days. But to differentiate the two versions a little more the above add/enhance list will not be available in the lite version.
If you want to try out Headlines lite, grab the free version here (AppCatalog).
The full version is available here.

Headlines – Quick Tips

I think it’s time to give you some hints to work even quicker with the app and show you some tips.

  • Access Quick Preferences with a Meta tap (Gesture Area tap) & P to open the Preferences even quicker, without opening the AppMenu first and then tap on the Preferences list item
  • Read Later options (Instapaper & Read it Later) are configured in the Preferences (not the context menu)
  • As an advice, always use a mobilizer if you’re using the webView (in App)
    • most of the news pages have crappy redirect URL and Javascript enabled that the webOS inline webView cannot handle properly
  • Tap&Hold a topic to open the context menu directly
    • if you found an interesting topic, there is no need to open the story first and share/read later in the context menu. You can get to this quicker if you simply tap&hold on a story
  • To reduce the size of the context menu, enable only the apps you really use
    • if there is only one Twitter app activated, no submenu is generated and you save a tap when sharing a topic.
  • When viewing an article inline, use Power-Scroll to quickly jump to the top or bottom of the current article.
  • You can also jump quickly from the first news pane to the last and vice versa with Power-Swipe. Works the same way as Power-Scroll (2-finger flick) but from left-to-right and right-to-left.
Maybe some of them are already known by you, but at least there are written here for people who don’t know it.
