puchk – Keep your users up to date!

I write this post because of 2 reasons.

First I want to write about puchk (Palm Update Check), a framework developed by JDF-Software, to support the developers to integrate an easy check in their Apps to keep the users informed about new versions of already purchased/downloaded applications in the App Catalog.

Sure you as a User, who downloaded an App from the Catalog get an info, if you check the Catalog and look at your installed Apps, that there are updates available. But many users don’t check that often this section and so there are many out there which using old, buggy, not that feature rich versions of your already updated software. Most of them have no idea that you released a new version days/weeks ago.

And this is where puchk comes in the game, it’s integrated in your App, of course you have to submit at least one version, before users get a notice of them. There is a little Dialog that appears, if a new version is available in the App Catalog. The user can directly open the Catalog and can start the update, without checking the App Catalog for a newer version of your software.

The second reason why i post this info about puchk, is, of course, I started to integrate this nifty little framework in my applications. First one is ColorHarmony, which I submitted for review yesterday, next one will be MyLove, other new applications (stay tuned, there will be a new one in the next few weeks) have also included puchk.

So if you’re a developer, have a look at the Github repository to check it out.
